In the early 70s, an unknown rising Broadway chorus singer got her first headlining gig singing weekend shows to men in towels at the legendary Continental Baths for gay men in NYC. The young Bette was accompanied by a then as-yet-unknown house accompanist, Barry Manilow. Bathhouse Bette is an uplifting celebration of the earliest bathhouse performances by iconic singer, actor and comedian, Bette Midler.

It’s the early 70’s, when a 26 year-old, hungry, as-yet-unknown starlet, Bette Midler, got her chops as the resident firecracker chanteuse singing weekend shows at the legendary Continental Baths uptown. She earned her “camp” honors in the hot & steamy gay bathhouse, singing to men in towels, still wet from the pool and other dark spaces. Her “house accompanist” was none other than the also-unknown Barry Manilow . This unlikely pair would go on to produce a powerful impact on pop culture, music and comedy as we know it! As per the fashion of bawdy Bette… copious amounts of singing, stories and dancing ensue! Amber will be performing live with special steamy surprises & her very own “Barry”, the brilliant Rupert Noffs! Accompanied by Pianist Jeremy Brennan.

Prepare to get a little steamy as Bathhouse Bette pays tribute to the bawdy, sometimes naughty comedy, and beautiful music of Bette Midler in a celebration of the earliest bathhouse performances by the iconic singer, actor and comedian.

Amber Martin is a celebrated NYC Vocalist, Downtown Performing Artist and Comedic Monologist. Greatly inspired onstage in the traditions of Janis Joplin, Lily Tomlin, Carol Burnett and Dolly Parton to name a few. Amber has been named one of the Top Performers of the Year by The New Yorker. Onstage, Amber is a powerful vocalist with a deep love for all genres of classic American pop music, which also inspires her own original songs. Martin brings a combination of cabaret, belting vocals, comedy and first-hand true stories to her live, raw, genre-hopping musical performances, casting light on Amber’s uniqueness from her downtown contemporaries and bringing a diverse range of entertainment to her equally diverse audiences.
